The City of Carpinteria is responsible for regulation and enforcement of parking laws as specified in the California Vehicle Code and the Carpinteria Municipal Code. The primary function of parking enforcement staff is to regulate parking throughout the City, educate the public about parking laws and maintain equitable enforcement in the issuance of citations and the application of parking laws.
The City of Carpinteria contracts with Enforcement Technology, Inc. to process all citations and their number is (800) 654-7275. Once a ticket has been issued, City staff cannot intervene in the citation process, which is required by the aforementioned laws.
Common Questions
1. What do I if I want to contest my citation?
Within 21 days of the issuance of a citation, you must send a written request for contesting the citation. If you fail to respond within 21 days, the fines will be increased. The determination to dismiss or uphold a citation will be mailed to you. If you are not satisfied with the results, you may, within 15 days of the mailing of the results, deposit the full amount of the parking penalty and request an administrative review. The third form of contestment is in person in front of a hearing officer.
2. How long can I leave my vehicle on the street?
There is a seventy-two hour time limit for parked vehicles. Leaving a vehicle on the street for more than 72 hours without being driven can result in a citation or the vehicle may be towed.
3. What is “T” parking?
In order to maximize City streets for vehicle use, “T’s” are painted on the street to regulate the space for a passenger vehicle to park. Parking outside of the “T” will result in a parking citation.
4. What about commercial trucks?
Commercial trucks are exempt or partially exempt from certain rules. They can park for 30 minutes while actively loading or unloading in all posted loading zones, 30 minutes in an alley, 30 minutes in a “No Parking Zone” and are allowed on City streets in general, while actively loading or unloading. They are also allowed to double park.
5. Can vehicles be repaired in the open or on the streets?
No, all vehicle repair must take place in the garage.
6. Can I park my vehicles in the front yard?
No, the parking of trailers, campers, boats or other similar motor vehicles in the required front yard setback is not permitted, except on an emergency basis, not to exceed a period of forty-eight hours within any consecutive thirty day period.
Inoperative, Wrecked, or Unused Vehicles Carpinteria Municipal Code prohibits the storage of inoperative, wrecked or unused vehicles outside of the garage or on your front yard or driveway. Vehicles in this condition are considered to be a public nuisance.
